Our blog is getting pathetic!

Hi Ladies,

Yes, our blog has been neglected and has yet to host great discussions. I'm sorry, I haven't been more involved! But I am ready and renewed. Who else is willing? I went to Scotland on the spur of the moment and I read Sense and Sensibility while I was there. I have to say that I am loving reading Jane Austen. I really liked Sense & Sensibility, though it is hard for me not to think of the characters as Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, which is one of the annoying things in having seen the movie of a book before reading it.

I always feel badly for poor Elinor because she suffers in silence while her sister steals everyone's compassion.

Here is my beef with Jane Austen so far: in my humble opinion, she seems to neglect the endings of her stories, when things are resolving and it is the climax. In Northanger Abbey, it seems so quickly mentioned that the guy loves her back (I am blanking on names). And then, in S&S, all of a sudden Edward is there and he loves Elinor. She seems to just state that it happens, rather that paint a clear picture as she normally does. I want details and that part stretched out as long as possible because that is the best moment, when it all comes together for the happy ending. She seems to shortchange me and it leaves me a bit unsatisfied. I know that we haven't read Pride & Prejudice yet, but let me just interject that I feel the same way about that story as well, though it is one of my favorite books. Perhaps my imagination is just not as vivid as she expects, but that is my one complaint about Jane Austen.

But I do love these books! Does anyone else have any thoughts to share?
